Conquering ourselves One Day at a time

Updated: Sep 23, 2020

Back in 2015 to 2018, I was into mountaineering. My first mountain to climb was Mt Pulag back in November 2015.

The adventure begins the moment you say YES to the invite. My friends and I were sharing the same feeling of excitement on our way to the jump-off point. Our adrenaline is up! The cool breeze of Benguet rush through our face as we ride on top of the monster jeepney, as they call it, for a top-loading experience!

As we reach our jump-off point, we set our tents up and rest for a midnight trek. By the way, don’t miss out on the experience of taking that ice-cold bath in one of the homestays there!

Our journey to the top of Mt Pulag begins at 1 AM so we can make it to the summit by sunrise. We make our way through the 4-degree temperature, chilly wind, and a dark path with only our headlights on. We don’t know the way and you can’t make your own trail ‘cause you don’t know what’s in your right or your left. The rule is to just follow the lead.

You know the feeling of getting excited on this trip and when you’re actually there trekking you’ll find yourself doubting your life decisions on why you even said yes to the trip. 😂

I discover this mountaineering hack that whenever I was catching my breath, I look up into the stars and it was just so surreal to get my energy back. It was like the stars were pushing me and cheering for me.

After 4-5 hours of trekking, we reached the summit just in time. It was breaking dawn when we witnessed the sea of clouds. No right words can describe how majestic that feeling was. We were literally on top of the clouds!

We spent an hour in the summit to enjoy nature, then we find our way back to the jump-off point. It was a total of 11 hours of trekking.

You see, our life is like mountain climbing. One day you are so excited with your plans. Then while you’re at it, the universe gave you challenges (starting with a global pandemic, you lost your job, you lost your clients, your business is in the brink of bankruptcy). Then you start doubting yourself and question why you even started or if your plans are really for you. During this point, you face an important crossroad – an important decision to make: to GIVE UP your plans, to GIVE IN to what other people say, or to GIVE IT YOUR ALL despite the challenges.

You’ll never know the majestic view on the top if you decided to give up and give in. Give your all then surrender to the Lord your worries and pain. Things will get better for you soon and once you conquer your doubts and disappointments, you’ll be stronger and wiser than you were before.

Keep the faith. ❤
